BCCI Retires MS Dhoni’s Iconic No 7 Jersey in Honor

Indian cricket bids farewell to the iconic No. 7 jersey, once adorned by MS Dhoni during his illustrious international and IPL career. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to retire this jersey number, ensuring that no other player will wear it in the future. MS Dhoni’s last appearance for India was in the 2019 ODI World Cup semi-final. He officially announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020, through an Instagram post. Since then, no Indian cricketer has donned the No. 7 jersey. This move by the BCCI marks the retirement of the second jersey number, with the first being the No. 10 worn by Sachin Tendulkar. Following Tendulkar’s international retirement in 2013, no player wore the No. 10 jersey until Shardul Thakur did so in 2017. Subsequently, the BCCI decided to retire the No. 10 jersey as well.
