Nitin Desai, found dead in studio
Renowned art director Nitin Chandrakant Desai has passed away at the age of 57. The police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise, and further information about the cause of death is yet to be disclosed. While initial reports hint at a possible suicide, official confirmation is awaited as more details are expected to be shared by the authorities. On the morning of August 2, his dead corpse was found at his N D Studio in Karjat. Sets for Slumdog Millionaire and Kaun Banega Crorepati were also constructed by the four-time National Award winner for art direction. He worked on some of the most well-known Bollywood films, including Lagaan, Jodha Akbar, Munnabhai M.B.B.S., and Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Bollywood has begun to respond. Bollywood celebrities have been responding to the incident as initial reports indicate that it may have been a suicide. In addition, he won the Filmfare Best Art Direction Award for 1942: A Love Story (1995), the IFA Best Art Direction Award for Jodha Akbar (2009), and the Filmfare Best Art Direction Award for Khamoshi (1997). Desai also built two sets for Slumdog Millionaire, a 2008 film directed by Danny Boyle that featured the Kaun Banega Crorepati set.
