Devid Warner Announces Retirement from ODI Cricket and Tests

David Warner has declared his exit from ODI cricket, concluding his Test journey as well. However, he has left a slight possibility of returning for the 2025 Champions Trophy if deemed necessary for Australia. His announcement was made at the SCG, stating, “I’m definitively stepping away from one-day cricket.” Reflecting on his World Cup victory in India, he emphasized the significance of this achievement. While he aims to venture into other global leagues, Warner remains open to assisting the one-day team if the need arises for the upcoming Champions Trophy. Interestingly, Warner’s ODI finale occurred at the World Cup final against India in Ahmedabad. With an impressive record, he amassed 6932 runs at an average of 45.30, including 22 centuries. This places him as Australia’s sixth-highest run-getter in men’s ODIs, ranking just behind Ricky Ponting, who had notably played 205 more ODI innings. Expectedly, Warner will sit out the imminent three-match ODI series against West Indies to honor his commitment with the Dubai Capitals for the ILT20. While he plans to continue in the T20I format until the upcoming World Cup in the Caribbean and the USA, he stands on the brink of completing a century of appearances across all formats. Previously, after the ODI World Cup in November, Warner had contemplated playing until 2027. However, with the team’s triumphant comeback in India, he deemed it fitting to conclude his innings on such a high note.
