In an initiative earlier this year, directives were issued by the AIIMS administration to ensure compliance with fire safety regulations throughout the summer season across all its departments. Daily inspections have been mandated for critical departments. As a component of its fire safety protocols, the institute has stipulated that laboratory in-charges must ascertain that chemicals prone to ignition are stored in secure locations.

In recent years, the institute has borne witness to multiple fire incidents, with the most substantial fire accident taking place in 2019.
