On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to encounter his second no-confidence motion in Parliament, marking the initial instance in his second term as PM. A designated time frame of 12 hours has reportedly been allocated for the ensuing deliberation.
As per reports, approximately 6 hours and 41 minutes have been allocated for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), while the Congress party has been allotted about one hour and 15 minutes. The Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP), Shivsena, Janata Dal – United (JDU), Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), and Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) collectively have been granted 2 hours for discussion, a division made according to their respective party members in the house. In contrast, smaller parties and independent MPs have been given a combined time limit of 1 hour and 10 minutes.
The motion of no-confidence by Gaurav Gogoi, the deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha, has been listed as the third agenda item in the List of Business. This motion transpires amidst the backdrop of ethnic violence in Manipur, which has caused frequent disruptions in both Houses of Parliament. It is anticipated that Rahul Gandhi, the leader of Congress, whose membership was reinstated following a Supreme Court directive, will initiate the discussion on the no-confidence motion in the Lok Sabha. Gandhi re-assumed his role as an MP on Monday afternoon, shortly after the Lok Sabha nullified his disqualification as a member due to the Supreme Court’s suspension of his conviction in a defamation case, wherein he was handed a maximum two-year sentence.It’s worth mentioning that Prime Minister Modi is slated to provide his response to the discourse surrounding the no-confidence motion aimed at the BJP-led NDA government on August 10. This motion, initiated by the Opposition parties within the INDIA bloc, is set for deliberation on Tuesday and Wednesday, August 8 and 9, within the lower house of the parliament. Subsequently, the Prime Minister will deliver his reply.
